Vocalist Ziza Mhlongo
Ziza is a vocalist with passion for Jazz singing. She is a vocal student of Eugenie Chopin, a Jazz piano student of Theodora Drummond and is currently working towards Masters in music through Wits University.
Ziza’s smooth voice lies with Jazz music. As a Jazz vocalist she has performed with some of South Africa’s top musicians like Johnny Furie, Wessel van Rendsburg, Godfrey Mcina, Carlo Mombeli, Reza Khota, Jonathan Crossley, Russell Stirling, Marcus Wyatt and Graeme Sacks. Her interest in music however had always spread widely and her performances include music of both contemporary and classical genre.
In 1994, Ziza teamed up with the force of two D.Js and begun performing with the two as a trio ‘Suplex’. The trio is still active today, performing dance music at clubs as well as private functions.
Her original compositions are included in collaborations such as Jazzy/Lounge music experiment with a producer/engineer Garth van der Merwe. One of their original compositions can be heard on a local CD compilation Cape town 2am, published by Sheer music. With ‘Musique des Anges’, a project created with one of S.A’s Dance music pioneers Gary van Riet, a hybrid form was born of classical singing and electronic music. Their first release can be heard on a South African compilation Liquid lounge (Next music 2006) featuring some international names like ‘Moby’. Check out Ziza’s two music videos for more original compositions.
